HAUNTED FOREST

A PATH

A path through the trees.

Past moss and thick vines.

Bushes are shaking.

Animals are scurrying.

Leaves are falling.

Birds are fleeing.

I must get home.

The forest is dark at night.

Too dark to be safe.

I can’t move.

Vines are twirling around my feet.

I’m trapped.

The forest has taken me.

THE LIGHT

Should I walk to the light?

Could be an illusion.

Or will I fall tonight?

I can’t seem to stay away.

My body move on its own.

I seem to be here to stay.

The earth’s rumbling.

The ground is moving.

And I’m stumbling.

THE DEAD wait below.

I can hear their screams,

Their shouts of hello.

Deeper I go.

Into the forest.

Where no one treads.

No one who cares.

The trees cover me.

The grass cushions me.

The light is up ahead.

It calls in a sweet voice.

I follow.

I look up.

The voice turns to a shriek.

I turn to stone.
