THE LONE TREE

The night is here.
Waves are lapping.
Dark blue ink creeping to shore.
Will I weather this storm?
Stand strong like the lone tree?

Flapping sounds fill the air.
Black spots cover the night sky.
Have they come for me?
For the town?

Waves hit me in the face.
The sand pulls me deeper.
The tree begins to bend.
I must go.

Shrieks echo in the wind.
Black feathers fly in the humid air.
Beaks pointing downward.
I must hide.

The trees call to me.
I will go to them.
They will hide me.
I must run faster.

Almost there.
A gazebo in the fog.
A noose hanging.
A body flapping in the wind.
The park can’t offer me safety.
Nowhere can.

What has happened to our paradise?
Now I could surely use some advice.
Our town is bombarded with creatures.
In the dark we can’t see their features.

They come out in the dark of night.
Hiding their faces from the light.
The winds are picking up speed.
They devour our town with greed.

We must run and hide in the church.
Before we are left in the lurch.
Someone save us before it’s too late.
From creatures filled with evil and hate.

It streaks outward.

Creating its own path.

Spreading.

Growing.

Reaching.

Fingers outspread.

A flash.

Darkness.

Another flash.

Our town is hit.

HELL HAS ARRIVED

Darkness is approaching.

The Dead are walking.

The storm is gathering speed.

Tree limbs and debris fly by.

Heavy rains  pummel the streets.

It’s too late for us.

We must find shelter.

The Dead can’t find us.

Hell has unleashed its demons.

And they’ve come for us.

Run!
