HE’S HERE

Prey for The Dead Book IILightning moving

What if Wolf isn’t dead?
Will he return to Oasis, Florida?
Will he bring an army?
The ground shakes.
Waves rise.
Thunder echoes through town.
Lightning flashes hot.
Leaves fall from trees.
Birds flee for their lives.
He’s here.

BLOODY MARY

I can see you.
from inside the mirror.
I will come for you
when you least expect it.
Don’t let your guard down.
Don’t fall asleep.
For soon your life will be over.
You said the words,
“Bloody Mary.”
It’s now too late to take them back.
They are written in blood.
Your blood.
Bloody Mary is here to stay.

TO DIE ALONE

To die alone is all I want,
To be free from the monster within.
Nature may have its tantrum,
But I refuse to yield to its master.
“Hell hath no fury like a women scorned,”
But hell has never met a woman scorned.
I will not surrender to the mighty winds,
Nor to the sleet and rain or even the snow.
I stand as strong and alone as the tree.
It has remained strong for generations,
Withstanding all the elements.
No one will take away our thunder.
The clouds dance around in their fury.
The rain falls as sharp pellets to the ground.
The winds whip around us in a rain dance.
But we stand strong against them all.
I can feel his presence.
I can feel his eyes watching me.
I will not be tempted or swayed
By his touch or his beauty.
Wolf alights upon the lone tree,
Lifting his head back to give a mighty roar.
I turn my face from his massive body,
I don’t want to fall into his trance.
He leaps to the ground to stand before me
In all his beauty and shining glory.
All who see him succumb to his charms
And fall prey to his whims.
Not me.
I alone refuse to give in.
I love another who is kind and giving,
Who is not a monster but a man.
He crushes his body against mine.
He envelopes me with his fresh scent.
I’m cushioned by his muscular chest and arms.
It would so easy to give in to this man.
No! He isn’t man but beast.
A vampire who plays games with human lives,
Who kills for the thrill of it.
I must fight to stay free.
Wolf holds me closer.
His lips move against mine.
I am losing myself to his touch.
Falling in thrall to his beauty.

REFUSE TO SEE

I refuse to see his face.
I refuse to face the truth.
He is evil inside.
A walker of the night.
Who brings death.
Destruction to our town.
But still I refuse to see.
To face the ugly truth.
His beauty hides his darkness.
His emptiness inside.

A PERFECT PARADISE

A perfect oasis on the shore.
You could not ask for anything more.
Sun and surf during the day,
But at night there’s hell to pay.
The waves welcome daily swimmers,
But at night there are no winners.
Afraid to venture out after dark,
Residents stay clear of the town park.
One night, a hanging party was had
By the dark creatures who are plain bad.
Our town is plagued by darkness and woe.
We don’t even know who is our foe.

PASSION AND FEAR

Storm is coming.
Hitting the shore.
Palm trees flying.
And so much more.

Anger raises the waves.
Passion kicks up the sand.
Fear hides behind clouds.
Marching in like a band.

I know he is here.
I hide from his face.
He’s coming for me.
Clouds pick up the pace.

His anger brings passion and fear.
Too bad he can’t fly like a dove.
His can easily moves mountains.
For me he moves the sky above.

AN UNWELCOME SURPRISE

Moon Flower
THE DEAD GAME
At Linda’s apartment, Todd walked in first. Almost immediately his highly attuned senses picked up an unusual scent. It smelled of flowers and cinnamon. He stood still, trying to place the unique aroma. It somehow seemed familiar to him. Linda never wore fragrances and neither did Shana. He looked down the dark hall and wondered who had been in this apartment…or maybe still was? From the living room, he heard a woman’s voice. “Welcome. What took you so long?”
He had assumed that everyone was accounted for in town, but this woman didn’t live in town. Now he placed the scent. He strode into the living room. “You’re not really Hank’s daughter are you, Frances? Is that even your real name?”
“Very astute of you, even though you are a mere human vampire. My name is Maxell and I am Natalie’s granddaughter,” the woman said with hatred burning in her eyes. “You killed my grandmother and now I will return the favor and kill all of you.”
The woman was beautiful with her blonde hair and voluptuous figure, Todd thought, but underneath she was as cold as ice.
“Natalie was one of The Dead before becoming a saint. Are you the same thing?” Linda asked as she watched the slinky blonde move gracefully around the room.
“No, silly human, I am not a saint but the last of The Dead in town. You’ve ruined all of our carefully laid out plans. We were waiting for Wolf and his gang to rid the world of unwanted vampires before we annihilated every last vampire, including all members of The Dead. I would then be ready to ascend to become La Santa Muerte, like my grandmother. We were to be the only true power on earth. Finally we would be free to be worshiped properly and fully by humans.”
Furious that they had another rogue vampire to deal with, Todd shouted at her, “You’re just another sniveling follower. The world will be a much better place with you gone.” He quickly turned to find a weapon, but by the time he turned back, Maxell and Linda had already disappeared together. The living room was empty.
He pulled out his cell phone and dialed the sheriff’s office. As soon as Sam answered, he yelled into the phone, “Linda is gone! Natalie had a granddaughter who’d posed as Hank’s daughter. She is the last of The Dead. This Maxell woman has abducted Linda. We need to quickly rally the forces. Call everyone. We must find them before she harms Linda.”

OUTSIDE THE DOOR

leirelatent
“Institute Benjamenta” (1995)

Has he come for me?
I hear his footsteps.
Walking up the steps.
All turns quiet.
The leaves stop rustling.
The wind stops blowing.
The silence is overpowering.
A strangle hold on my nerves.
Is he standing outside the door?
Waiting for me to open it.
I won’t.
I won’t let him in.
He wants me.
I won’t become one of The Dead.

WELCOME TO MY GREENHOUSE

"Welcome to my greenhouse,"
Wolf steps back from the front door.
He leads his guests to his greenhouse.
A path meanders through the thick greenery.
Leaves rustle.
Chirping sounds fill the room.
No animals or birds.
Only tall trees reaching the green-domed ceiling.
A wall of cages faces them.
Cages filled with snakes.
Long tongues reach for the unwelcome guests.
Wolf laughs at their discomfort.
Time to leave the strange house.
They race down the same path.
Trees lift their mighty trunks in pursuit.
The house shakes and rumbles.
Wolf bellows louder in laughter.
They run through the room of portraits.
Eyes follow their desperate escape.
From a house ready to
swallow them alive.
THE DEAD GAME HAS BEGUN.
